Over the years we have sold beautiful Black Forest antiques and the best quality that was made in Holland was made by Horrix of the Hague. When we first saw this rare, lazy fireplace chair we were immediately sold for four reasons:
1. This handcrafted chair of solid oakwood is truly stylish and the design is aesthetically perfect.
2. There is not a chip or break in the wood anywhere and the patina is amazing.
3. When I sat in this chair, I immediately wanted to grab a book and remain seated.
4. We were immediately certain that this chair is and can only have been made by one of Holland’s finest furniture makers, Horrix of The Hague
To find a low ‘fireplace chair’ from one of Holland’s and even Europe’s best makers when it comes to the Black Forest Style, is like finding a needle in a haystack. For it to be of museum quality and condition makes it even more special. We are certain that the seat and back have, at some point in time, been re-upholstered and the person who did it, wisely choose a single color. This way it will perfectly complement the design of the chair whilst not taking anything away from the sublime carvings. In fact, the ‘calmness’ of this fabric makes the superb oak-tree-carvings stand out even more. This rare, extremely well carved and highly stylish fireplace chair is as strong and stable as the day it was hand-crafted (there is no wobble whatsoever) and it can easily hold a 21st century grown male. Mind you, Horrix of the Hague seized to exist in 1891 so chairs by this top manufacturer will always be a little smaller than chairs of today. However, I am 6.1 and I weigh 200 pounds and I find this antique chair very comfortable to sit in. Apart from a rare and amazing fireplace chair that can very much be sat in/on and used, this chair can also be put on display as the masterful work of art that it is. It will look marvelous by the fireplace, in a chalet, in a classy library or reading room, but also in the corner of a bedroom. Finally, this finest quality AND condition antique from the mid 1800s will also make a great talking piece, never failing to impress.
Mind you, our price for this very rare chair includes perfect packing and also worldwide delivery from our store to your door in just 4 to 6 days.
