This is an unusual form of Biedermeier Barrel Back chairs in walnut. The barrel back is configured of open bars with three profiles of abstracted pineapple* silhouettes spaced between the bars. The abstracted form of the pineapple lends a lightness, almost playful, energy to the chairs. The chairs appear to be in original condition, perhaps having an old refinish. The original seat blocking has been stabilized with added newer blocking. The chairs are very sculptural and would incorporate beautifully into just about any setting.
*The pineapple is the traditional symbol of welcome and hospitality.
