Mid Century French Mantel Clock

This is a wonderful European mantel clock made from brass and marble. It has a beautifully detailed body that was common in 19th Century clocks from France, Italy and Spain. It has a handwritten sticky label on its base in French, so I’m concluding this clock is French – but do let me know if you beg to differ. This clock dates from the mid 1900s, however, I think it might be even earlier. It’s highly probable that this was once a traditional mechanical clock that was converted to “quartz” in the mid 1900s.

Also of interest is the fact that this clock was recently sourced at the Sony Prop House in Los Angeles which closed down in September 2023. It has old “Sony” labels and markings underneath its base, so if you think you may have seen this clock in a film or T.V. show, then you probably have! I have no C.O.A. other then the Sony markings which I assume were added so as not to lose the clock on a studio set somewhere. Do let me know if you think you’ve seen this in a movie or show.

What a storied history this clock has had! I wonder what the next 100 years holds for it?

Size: 10″ width (at base) x 12 1/4″ height x 5 3/8″ depth (base). It weighs a solid 6lb 4oz.
