This original theatre program for:
Une Faillite – A Bankruptcy
Le Poète et le Financier – The Poet and the Financier
at the Théâtre Libre by Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec is known as:
La Coiffure or the Hairdresser.
It depicts a scene from the Poet and the Financier and shows countess Gisèle dressed in Japanese style wearing a kimono and waiting to have her a hair done.
This print illustrates Toulouse-Lautrec’s taste for and influence of Japanese “ukiyo-e” prints by artists such as Katsushika Hokusai and Ando Hiroshige.
