Large Gateleg dining Table in oak with drop leaf top.
Table top is made of solid hand planed oak planks with visible pegs along the joints. Base with turned legs in solid oak. Two legs pivots to support the leaves, hence the name gateleg.
The gateleg table was first introduced in England in the 15th century and has since been made in many versions but with the same basic design with the drop leaves and pivoting legs.
When fully extended the oval table top measures 140 x 160.5 centimeters (55 x 63 inches)
This table originates from a large Danish manor house where it has been in a room that was rarely used since the 1950s. It therefore shows minimal signs of use.
This occasional table is also suitable as a console when not extended.
