Vintage Design
Arne Jacobsen was the architect and designer of St. Catherine’s College ”new buildings” In the years 1959-1964. To this project He made the well-known ”Oxford” series. To the dorm rooms he designed a furnishing of laminated oak, consisting of a desk, a chair, a lounge chair with a low table, that could also be issued vith a cushion and as a footstool. This series vas produced by Fritz Hansen under the name ”St Catherine’s”
The college is situated towards the east of Oxford, on the bank of the Cherwell river. Its striking buildings in glass and concrete by the Danish architect Arne Jacobsen combine modern materials with a traditional layout around a quaterangle. Arne Jacobsen’s archicture in this and many other buildings went much further than just the architecture of the buildings its self, and included cutlery, furniture, and lamp shades being of his own idiosyncratic design.
