Vintage Design
This is a first generation chair produced by Evans Molded Plywood Company between 1946 and 1948 (Herman Miller bought the Evans Plywood Division in 1949 and continued the production).
Beside the label, some details are specific to the first generation chairs produced by Evans:
– with the chair turned over, the screw pattern is 5-2-5 (on later chairs the pattern is 4-2-5);
– the absence of metallic glides on the underside of the leg ends;
– the slotted head screws for attaching the backrest and the back leg under the chair (slotted head screws instead of Philips head screws used for the Herman Miller chairs).
This chair has been professionally refinished, but retains all the original shock mounts and screws. This is quite rare, as at least the backrest shock-mount has in general been replaced at some point.
Great collector’s item!
