Biedermeier sewing table, South German 1820-25.
Cherry veneer with beautiful floral marquetry details in maple and plum wood. The sewing table has two drawers, the inside of one of them has several compartments and a flippable pin cushion. The lids of the compartments are decorated with different inlaid motifs. In the center is a lithography titled “Der Seidelsche Steinbruch bei Rochlitz” , this is a reference to the quarry in Rochlitz in Saxony (Germany).
We can assume that the table was made in Saxony or was originally ordered by a customer from this area.
This is an exquisite Biedermeier piece. The cabinet maker demonstrates a love for detail.
The table is in very good condition. It ships from Germany and includes shipping costs to Boston.
