The German Black Forest artisan who created this work of beauty was obviously inspired by the stacked tree trunk designs of many German and Swiss lodges in that era. Or maybe he liked English word jokes, because he created a little trunk out of (tree) trunks. Either way, this fine example still opens and shuts perfectly. It even comes with the original and working lock and key. However, it won’t lock-up, because the little pin with the hole that is supposed to be on the inside of the lid is missing. Apart from some truly minor imperfections this antique and great looking box could not be in better condition. Especially in this day and age, when almost everything is machine made and without any detail, it is incredible to see how well the artisan managed to hand carve this antique in such a way that you actually think that you are looking at a trunk that is made of stacked wood logs. Apart from being highly decorative and of practical proportions, this chest-design box can be used for all kinds of purposes and its amazing design and patina will never fail to impress.
