This early 19th-century drop-leaf secretaire features the traditional Biedermeier ebony accents, columns, and matched woodgrain pattern. Unlike the high gloss finish of many pieces from this period, the wood has a less formal soft-matte patina, with the pleasing and comfortable look of aged wood. There is a top full-size drawer with 2 brass ring pulls. Each is decorated with a man riding a lion. The two doors on the bottom section swing open to reveal a divided section with one horizontal shelf. The desk drops down to reveal an ebony writing surface and seven drawers. Some of the interior drawer pulls have been replaced. Exterior original hardware also features flowing urns and flowers. The exterior drawers and doors are keyed and the keys are included.
