He became known for his participation in the artist group de Stijl. Rietveld&#8217;s &#8220;Red Blue Chair&#8221; from 1918 is considered one of the most famous design icons and is now represented in many design museums. Another milestone in design history is the &#8220;CraTe Chair&#8221;. Gerrit Rietveld designed the idiosyncratic armchair in 1934 as an inexpensive alternative to expensive furniture in the economic crisis at that time. Originally, the armchair made of wooden residues was produced by packaging boxes and offered as a kit for self -assembly. Our copy comes from an unknown Dutch production, probably from the 1960s. The armchair is in absolute original condition, built made of solid larch wood. Good substance, stable.
