French, Early 20th Century
Height 220cm, diameter 82cm
Radiating exquisite grandeur, this exceptionally large pair of candelabra was crafted by Baccarat in the early 20th century. Made entirely from high-quality cut crystal, the pair is modelled after a design commissioned by Tsar Alexander II for the private apartments of his wife, Tsarina Maria Alexandrovna.
The upper portion of each candelabrum features 24 gracefully curved crystal arms, each adorned with petal-shaped bobeches embellished with hanging beads and pendants. The crystal candle cups cover the light fittings, supporting finely etched glass shades. These are beautifully decorated with scrolling foliate patterns, which become even more captivating when illuminated. Above the lights, an intricately detailed petal-edged piece culminates in a striking spear-shaped crystal finial.
Each candelabrum is supported by an elegant central column, composed of variously shaped crystal segments. The upper section is slender, while the lower part features more rounded forms, all unified by masterful cut decoration. Each candelabra rests on four scroll-shaped feet adorned with nature-inspired motifs.
The glass is marked with Baccarat’s signature circular stamp, a testament to its authenticity.
Superbly crafted by a renowned French firm, this magnificent pair of candelabra will be a wonderful addition to one’s refined interior.
