For the collectors of the rarest and best quality Black Forest sculptures we also have this very detailed, hand-carved stag. Looking at the intricate details and the impressively realistic features of this possibly dying stag, this simply can only be the work of a Swiss master carver. Being capable of creating this much detail on a relatively small sculpture takes a god given talent and a lifetime of experience. With the anatomy, the posture AND the balance being perfectly correct, this work of art inkstand is simply devine. An experienced antique seller once tought us that a great sculpture looks good from all angles and that certainly is the case with this striking stag. Mind you, back in the late 1800s these majestic mountain dwelling animals were hunted not for ‘sports’, but much more for the meat and for their hides. This particular stag is so detailed you can even see the fear of what is to come in his dark glass eyes. The tongue sticking out from exhaustion is another amazing feature that could not be more realistic. Some of the details are so intricate, you would think that it took a needle to carve them. With only some minor damage to the ear on the backside of this sculpture, this hand carved wooden stag could not be in better condition. We forgot to take a photo of it, but one could ofcourse also use the antlers to place a pen on. Even with the minor imperfections, this truly is one of the most decorative and amazing inkstands that we have ever seen and it could not be more Black Forest in style.
