Vintage Design
This pretty Three Drawer Carved Antique Coffer Table was crafted in Shaanxi, China circa 1880. It features deep carvings and metal studs on the drawers, a full width upper drawer with a central flower and scrolling leaf design, and two lower drawers with a paler finish to contrast with the darker frames, sides and top. The top extends over the frames and legs for additional display space.
Originally, this table served a dual purpose—as a place to respectfully present offerings to ancestors, as well as a secure area for protecting valuable items—with the drawers able to be locked. The deep black lacquer of the darker sections contrasted with the brightly painted drawers; these have now aged and worn, producing a more unified palette that would complement any home aesthetic.
