A handsome and most impressive French 19th century Louis XVI st. Belle Époque period mahogany, burl walnut and ormolu desk. The desk is raised by most elegant circular tapered legs with fine mottled ormolu sabots and lovely foliate top caps. The frieze displays three drawers. The two outer drawers are each decorated with charming finely detailed winged cherubs with beautiful rinceaux shaped scrolled designs holding central mottled circular burl walnut reserves. The central drawer displays a striking richly chased ormolu swaging berried laurel garland draped over the two outer pulls and centered by a wonderfully executed tied ribbon and ormolu keyhole escutcheon. Above is the original gold tooled leather writing surface framed within a mahogany and ormolu mottled foliate border. At each side are pull out writing surfaces which also display their original gold tooled leather and a fine ormolu pulls.
