Birch
Biedermeier around 1820
Dimensions: H x W x D: 172 x 93 x 52 cm
Description:
Beautiful, small and birch veneered Biedermeier display cabinet from the Northeast German Biedermeier period.
Piece of furniture standing on an ebonized plinth.
In the lower section we see a wide door with a recessed round arch segment and a lock mounted in the centre. The door is protected against warping by two solid ridge mouldings. The interior is divided by a shelf into two compartments of approximately equal Size.
The upper part of the furniture is glazed on three sides. The glazing is divided by glazing bars into three fields each. Most of the glass panes are original, slightly wavy and have minor air inclusions. The mirrors mounted in the carcase are also old and slightly dull. This can be seen clearly on the attached video.
There is a shelf behind each of the bars, the upper one with a shelf. The shelves are grooved into the carcase, which is clearly visible in one of the photos. A really beautiful piece of craftsmanship!
The door is flanked by two massive solid columns. The highlight of the piece of furniture are the original, very elaborately made capitals of embossed and galvanised sheet iron. Absolutely rare, absolutely collectible!
The upper end is a cornice with a Schinkel gable supported by dentil mouldings.
