Black forest pair of hanging corner shelves, hand carved in Switzerland between 1860 and 1890. The black forest hanging corner shelves are quite unusual with their original intricate carving. Black Forest Furniture began to appear in the mid-1800s in the town of Brienz, located in Switzerland. Originally Black Forest were small items designed for the tourist trade to carry home as vacation souvenirs. In the later part of the 19th century, as tourism increased, so did the number and Size of Black Forest Carvings. Soon thereafter larger items of Black Forest Furniture evolved and eventually large bookcases and upholstery items began to appear. Old Plank recently discovered a treasure Trove of Black Forest Carved Furniture all from one French Chateau. The Chateau had an incredible collection of over (40) hand carved pieces of Swiss Black Forest Furniture.
