A beautiful and expertly-crafted extension dining table in solid mahogany with (6) six leaves, attributable to cabinetmaker, R.J. Horner, from New York City during the American Belle Époque or Gilded Age. The 54″ square top, which opens and extends to 14′, has carvings on the corners of the molded apron and rests on a pedestal base comprising of a large cylindrical column supported by four legs that end in carved lions’ paw feet, all embellished with foliate and floral carvings, including large carved acanthus leaves. Cylinder opens to expose an enclosed turned and carved column that lends additional support as the table extends open. New York City, circa 1880. Table was restored in our workshop with a French-polish finish.

Condition:GoodAdditions or alterations made to the original: Table can have brass casters or self leveling commercial glides. The glides work better on wood and tile, and the casters are more suited to carpet. Customer may choose the option that better suits their needs. Refinished. Replacements made: Three of the leaves are original to the table while three were made in our workshop to match, for a total of six leaves. Leaves are stored in a leaf box. Wear consistent with age and use. In the process of restoring this fine table, the top was re-colored to match the base, and all was French-polished, a historic finish that is a centuries old technique which highlights the beauty and depth of the wood.
