Lovely 19th-century Indian Nettur Petti dowry box, featuring beautiful and ornate brass hinges and decoration. An attached small box with latch is found inside. Exquisite example of Indian craftsmanship, including intricate pen work and decorative brass. In Kerala, these Nettur Petti boxes were traditionally used by women of royalty and temples to hold valuables. The design follows the rules of Tachusastram, an ancient architecture science followed in Kerala. Construction and shape of the box is similar to a traditional Kerala house.
