A love letter to a departed soul, this tender piece manifests as an envelope that folds over a pearl studded arrow and is sealed with a forget-me-not flower. Circa 1870, this early Victorian brooch is cast in 14k gold with a beautiful acid wash matte finish. The forget-me-not, a sentimental image often seen in mourning jewelry, consists of a chrysoberyl cat’s eye surrounded by six old cut diamonds bead set into its petals. The whimsical arrow is encrusted with eight pearls that look beautiful against the matte gold. On the back of the brooch, a portrait of a woman is held in an oval frame. She has braided hair, wears beautiful jewelry, and was clearly very loved by the brooch’s original owner.

The blue-grey cat’s eye has lovely chatoyancy that shimmers as it moves, making the piece even more magical. Chatoyancy is an optical phenomenon seen in certain stones, caused by light reflecting off of parallel needle-like elements within the stone, this is the cat’s eye effect.  In addition, the chrysoberyl has a trait known as adularesence—a milky sheen or glowing light that seems to come from below the surface of the stone. The effect is caused by layers of orthoclase and albite that reflect and scatter light.

The brooch measures 2” x 3/4” and weighs 10 grams. The chrysoberyl measures 3.25 mm. The six natural old cut diamonds measure 2.25 and equal .15 of a carat. The natural pearls range in size 2.75 – 1 mm. The piece is unmarked but acid tests as 14k gold.

Circa 1870, this gorgeous French brooch features a pink tourmaline as its centerpiece, flanked by Rose Cut diamond studded triangles along a horizontal 18k gold pin. The tourmaline is oval-shaped and bezel set—it is a nice old cut stone with complex dusty rose hues. Elongated triangles radiate from the stone for a triangle-within-a-triangle effect. The inner shape is set in platinum, delineating and enhancing the white of the diamonds bead set within its borders. The outer triangle adds a layer of depth of the gold, making for an elegant and well-balanced geometric pin.

The brooch contains unidentified French hallmark, along with an eagle head, the French mark for 18k gold. The tourmaline measures 8.5 x 7.5 and approximately 2 carats. The 10 natural Rose Cut diamonds weigh .10 of a carat. The pin measures 2 3/8” x 3/16” and weighs 6.2 grams.

The back of the pin contains evidence of solder from an early repair.

This piece would look great on the lapel of a jean jacket or leather blazer.

Converted from a Victorian era stickpin, we mounted this 14k gold lion head onto a custom ring band. The lion’s profile is in three quarters view. It is well-sculpted in incredible bas relief with lots of dimensionality. The lion holds an Old European Cut diamond in his mouth, with tiny teeth serving as the prong setting. His eyes glow with two tiny garnets. The lion’s face is wonderfully realistic, with a heavy brow and lots of delineation in the mane. This is a great piece for someone needing protection or help channeling their inner courage.

The natural Old European Cut diamond is bright and lively and .10 of a carat and 2.5mm. The garnets measure 1 mm each. The ring weighs 5.65 grams. The lion’s profile measures 1/2” x 9/16” x 5/16”. The ring is unmarked but acid tests as 14k.

1970s Modernist rhodium plated spiral links with cabochon faux-carnelian center and box clasp with a single clear round rhinestone on it necklace. Marked “U.C. Ugo Correani Made in Italy.” Center: 2 inches long. Overall measures: 7 1/2 inches long by 5 1/2 inches wide. Interior circumference about 17 1/2 inches. Condition: Very good except that there is crazing to the metal coating on the clasp, which may be a problem at a later date, but currently isn’t very noticeable.

Ugo Correani designed jewelry for Versace and Valentino and is a highly sought after name.

1960s textured goldtone two leaves with a line of clear Swarovski rhinetones down each leaf clip back earrings. Marked crown “Trifari” with a copyright symbol. Measure: 1 1/8 inches long by 13/16 inches wide. Excellent condition- extremely sparkly!

Late 1940s or early 1950s silvertone corn cob link necklace with spring ring clasp. Marked “Napier.” Measures: 6 inches long by 5 1/4 inches wide. Interior circumference about 16 3/4 inches. Condition: Very good; some tarnish normal for its age and the clasp has been replaced and is a little bit difficult to attach.

Breakfast anyone? 1940’s Bakelite bracelet in a unique and eye catching oblong shape reminiscent of a fried egg which goes hand in hand with the yellowish color known as ‘egg yolk’.
