This is an extraordinarily RARE Pablo Picasso collotype with pochoir, titled “Two Nudes”. This particular artwork is shown on page 75 of ‘The World of Pochoirs’. It is a very refined drawing that Picasso drew in 1920 (dated and signed in the plate, lower left), and you can see in this drawing how is was already starting his shift towards cubism. In 1946, a New York publisher published a Picasso-authorized portfolio of his most famous drawings, titled “Picasso Fifteen Drawings”, and issued an edition of 500. This is NOT modern reprint of copy and they are extremely hard to find. Other galleries ask as high as $8000 for works from this series because they are so rare.

When you look at the series of 15 drawings, you can see the entire evolution of the artist from the turn of the century, to the mid-1940s, and it is simply astounding. This piece has been custom framed with archival matting and glare-free UV-protecting Museum Glass to keep it looking gorgeous for years to come. It is set in a stunning vintage wood carved frame and is ready to hang.

This is a 1931 French vintage advertisement print for luxury travel bags made under the iconic HERMES label. It is elegant and dynamic with classic Art Deco elements. It originally appeared in a French periodical of that time and has now become highly collectible and desirable with the passage of time. The image showcases a new line of Hermès travel bags in a plaid style fabric (TOILE) with the repeating “H” pattern. It is unique in its design and specificity to the 1931 collection. The luggage pieces which include a suitcase, hat box, satchel and golf bag are iconic and timelessly chic. This print is perfect for the Hermès collector or the fashionista of today. This is a botanical that we recently purchased from a “bouquiniste” (book store seller of old books) in Paris after searching files of old papers and lithographs. It is a colored engraving of the “Tulipa Culta” by the renown Pierre Joseph Redouté (1759-1840). Redouté was one of the most talented botanical artists in history. This tulip is a large showy brightly colored flower. The bouquiniste explained to us that this lithograph was printed by hand in 1954, using the original engraving plate by Redouté himself. Zoom in to note the textures, color tones, and fine details of the image. You can see the “stippling” effect from the original plate. The image speaks for itself and we are happy to have found it. Excellent condition. Measures 9 x 13 inches in size. Comes matted in a neutral tone 16 x 20 inch custom mat ready for a standard size frame. Please allow time for custom matting.

Painted by Victor Di Gesu (American, 1914-1988) circa 1955 and stamped, verso, with Victor di Gesu estate stamp.

Winner of the Prix Othon Friesz, Victor di Gesu first attended the Los Angeles Art Center and the Chouinard Art School before moving to Paris where he studied with Andre L’Hote and Yves Brayer at the Académie de la Grande Chaumière. While in Paris, Di Gesu exhibited extensively, including at the Louvre, the Exposition des Artistes Étrangères, the Grand Palais of the Salon d’Automne and the Salon des Arts Décoratifs among other Parisian Salons. He subsequently attended Barcelona’s Escuela de Bellas Artes before furthering his studies in Rome at the Studio Hinna. Returning to California, Di Gesu worked beside several notable American Modernists including F. Tolles Chamberlain and Maynard Jepson.

Already a gifted colorist, Di Gesu’s classical training combined with his scientific research into color theory, allowed him to create vivid yet harmonious works which, while reminiscent of Matisse and Gauguin, revealed a verve and spontaneity that remained uniquely his own. A prolific artist, Victor Di Gesu was the recipient of numerous medals and juried awards, both in the United States and in France. After his return to California, he continued to exhibit widely and with success, including at the San Francisco Museum of Art, Monterey Peninsula Museum of Art, the Carmel Art Association and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art.
