French Belle Époque Table in the style of Louis XV with parquetry, marquetry and ormolu mounts, circa 1870. Imported by R.J. Horner in New York from France for the American market. It was very popular at that time for American cabinet-makers of European descent to have specialty items such as this Louis XV Belle Époque table for their chic New York clientele. Leon Marcotte was another cabinet-maker who maintained ateliers in both New York City and Paris. The great houses that were built during the Golden Age in Newport, for example, were outfitted by French workshops for both the mill-work and the furnishings.
